Funeral services for George William Barr, 83, were held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, at 1:30 o'clock from the Gill Funeral Chapel in Strawberry Point.
Born March 14, 1875, in Edgewood, he was the son of Henry and Eliza (Morgan) Barr. On Sept. 24, 1902, he was married to Mae Borrett at Garber, and they lived in Strawberry Point the last 47 years. He was a retired insurance agent, a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason. He was interested in basketball and boys.
For the past four years he has been at the Woodlawn Convalescent Home in Waterloo and it was there that he died Christmas Day at about 4:40 p.m. Interment was at the Strawberry Point cemetery with the Rev. Robert Smith of the Methodist church the officiating pastor.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and seven sisters, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Barr of Oelwein; a daughter, Mrs. W. A. (Nita) Stevens, also of Oelwein; two sons, Paul of Evanston, Ill., and Wayne of Des Plains, Ill.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
