Service for Mrs. Elizabeth Eppens 79, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Glenn Gifford of Elkader, was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Witt funeral chapel. The Rev. Paul Kitterer, pastor of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, officiated and burial was in the city cemetery at Guttenberg.
Mrs. Eppens was born April 06, 1876, at Colesburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Bush. Her father was a pioneer merchant in the area and after her marriage to Walter Eppens, the couple continued the operation of a store in Colesburg established by her father. Mr. Eppens was also postmaster at Colesburg before his death.
Mrs. Eppens was a 50 year member of the Colesburg Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her entire life was spent in the Colesburg community until she came to Elkader to make her home with her daughter a year ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gifford and Mrs. Frank Warner of LaCrosse, Wis.; one son, Otto, of Colesburg, and one brother, Frank Bush of Guttenberg, and one half-sister, Florence Bush of Chelsea, Mass., and two grandchildren, Nancy and Brian Gifford of Elkader.
Pallbearers were Leavitt Bush, Harvey Bush, Rob Bush, Roy Bush, Elmer Bush and Kermit Kuhlman, all nephews of Mrs. Eppens.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bush, Dubuque; Mrs. Roy Hochhaus Edgewood; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bush, Oneida; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Minihan, Elgin; Robert White, Allison; Mr. and Mrs. Carl K_m and Frank Bush, Guttenberg; Mrs. Mamie Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Leavitt Bush, Harvey Bush, Rob Bush, Roy Bush and Kermit Kuhlman, Colesburg. Also many friends from Colesburg, Guttenberg, Dubuque, Oelwein, Calmar, West Union and Cedar Rapids.
