Funeral services for Mrs. Louis Henkes, 87, who died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Postville hospital where she had been a patient for the past ten weeks, were held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, at 1:45 in the Schultz funeral home and at two o'clock in the Evangelical U.B. church with the Rev. A. W. Ebert officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.
Ida, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Roth, was born on June 05, 1870, in Clayton county. In infancy she was christened in the Giard Methodist church. She attended the rural school in Giard township. Her formal religious training was received in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church in Monona, where she was confirmed on April 05, 1886. In recent years she maintained affiliations with the Evangelical U.B. church in Monona.
On Feb. 06, 1888, she was united in marriage with Louis Henkes. They made their home on a farm near Luana, for one year. Later they moved to a farm three and one-half miles sooth of Monona.
Following the death of Mr. Henkes in 1930, Mrs. Henkes made her home with her son, Albert, on the home place. In recent years she has made extended visits in the homes of her other children.
Mrs. Henkes was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. John Schlitter; her parents, a brother and sister; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
Surviving are the following children: Lester of California; Clarence, Everett, and Mrs. Walter (Edna) Miller, all of McGregor; Oscar, Albert, and Mrs. Harvey (Irene) Kuthe of Monona; 29 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren.
Music for the services was provided by David Schlitter and Jackson Turner, accompanied by Mrs. A. W. Ebert, organist.
