Wm. John Schmidt died at his home in Wagner township on Nov. 30 at 8:00 p.m. following an illness of two and one-half weeks caused by a fall.
Mr. Schmidt was born Sept. 21, 1864 in Garnavillo, the son of John and Caroline (Gumtow) Schmidt. January 06, 1888, at Clayton Center, he was united in marriage with Sophia Kamin. She preceded him in death in 1923, as did also one son, John, in 1914.
Surviving are one son, Arthur of St. Olaf and two daughters, Mrs. Herman Schlake of Farmersburg and Mrs. Geo. Lemke of St. Olaf besides five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Schmidt received his education in the public schools after which he took up farming which was his life-work.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 03 in the Zion's Lutheran church at Clayton Center with the Rev. O. M. Meyer officiating. Casketbearers were: Fred Orvis, K. K. Stearns, Henry Wilke, Henry Larson, Harry Barnum and Clarence Peterson.
