Elkader Register & Argus, 16 Oct. 1919.
On Jan. 13th, 1918, in Elkader, Harry William, their second child was born to Harry and Jessie Conrad. In September of the same year the family departed to make their new home at Independence, Iowa. Here, with his sister Edith, he filled the lives of his parents with untold joy for a little over a year.
On Thursday morning, Oct. 9th, he was suddenly taken ill and despite the skill of two doctors and two nurses, his spirit departed from this world to its Maker from whence it came, on Friday, the following morning, at 4 o'clock.
A short prayer service was held at the home in Independence, conducted by Rev. Brooks, after which the remains were brought to Elkader, to the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Wilke.
Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon in the Ev. Friedens church, conducted by Rev. C. H. Franke, and the remains were laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.
Deceased is survived by his parents, sister Edith, grandparents and other relatives, who have the sympathy of the people of this community.
O little faded bud, fast closed and still,
Wilt ne'er unfold thy glorious heart,
full blown ?
No whisper - but a rush of fragrance
comes
From roses glowing 'round the
Masters throne.
