Merrill Merton Goodrich was born at Cleghorn, Iowa, on Oct. 15, 1906, and departed from this life on April 13, 1931, at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 24 years, six months and 28 days.

He graduated from Cleghorn high school in the class of 1924 and went to Florida in the fall of 1925 where he has made his home for the past seven years. He was united in marriage to Sherra Simmons of Brooksfield, Floria, on June 6, 1931.

He was received into the membership of the First Baptist church of West Palm Beach, Floria, on January 11, 1931, and was baptized on Feb. 15, 1931. A letter from his pastor to the sorrowing parents says he was a member of the Baraca class in the Sunday school and lived a consistent Christian life. His lovable nature won him a host of friends and his loss will be keenly felt by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Sherra, his father and mother. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Goodrich and four brothers, Emory, Harold, Vernon and Roy, all of Cleghorn and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Montgomery of Washta, Iowa, with a host of other relatives and friends. One brother, Vincent, preceded him in death in 1921.

Funeral services were held from the Cleghorn Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon. Burial was made in the Marcus cemetery. (Source: Excerpt from Cherokee Daily Times, Sat., Apr. 25, 1931, pg. 5)
