Harriet Louise Gravatt, 75, of Traer, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 5, 1998, at Traer.

Funeral services were held on September 9 at the United Methodist church in Traer with burial in the Buckingham Cemetery at Traer.

Mrs. Gravatt was born September 4, 1923, at Meriden, Iowa to George and Alice (Nelson) Mason. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1941 and attended Iowa State teacher’s College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her first teaching College at cedar Falls, Iowa. Her first teaching assignment was at Marcus, Iowa and then at Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1946, she married Albert Gravatt in 1946, and they made their home in Traer where she taught in the elementary school for 20 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and active in Traer community activities.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Dennis Miller, Cedar Falls; a son, Curt Gravatt and his wife, Connie, LaPorte City, Iowa; three grandsons; a granddaughter; a sister, Amy Peterson, Aurelia, Iowa; and a brother, Lyle Mason, Cherokee, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 1986; and two brothers, Ben and Don. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook clipping hand dated 9-11-98)
