Clara Margaret Cook, 92, of Marcus died Friday, September 11, 1998, at Happy Siesta health center in Remsen.
Services will be Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday with a prayer service at Earnest & Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.
Mrs. Cook was born May 2, 1906, in Sheridan Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Fred and Albertine (Brandt) Kirchoff. She attended rural school. She married Andrew S. Cook on August 9, 1925, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. They farmed in the Wentworth, S.D. area a few years and then moved to Lead, S.D. where Mr. Cook worked in the gold mines. They returned to a farm southeast of Marcus in 1941 where she lived until September of 1955, when she entered Heartland Care Center at Marcus. She moved to Happy Siesta in August of 1996. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the ladies aid of the Church. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and making handmade braided rugs.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Paula Cook, a granddaughter, Rachel Cook both of North Little Rock, Ark.; a grandson, Cory Cook and his wife Gabriela Cook of Newport, Va.; a sister-in-law, Lillian Kirchoff of Nevada, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew on January 21, 1992, a brother, Arthur Kirchoff, and two sisters: Lillian Busbee and Vera Soule. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook clipping hand dated 9-12-98)
