Robert Melton, 72, of the Reno, Nevada area and a Cherokee, Iowa native, passed away Saturday, July 18, 1998, at his residence.
Burial was in the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley, Nevada under the direction of the O’Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home.
Mr. Melton was born August 10, 1925, to Lester and Louie (Beardshaw) Melton at Cherokee. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving with the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He was a sales representative for Tex-Penn Oil Corp. He was a member of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse and the California State Farmers Association. He had lived in the Reno area the past 36 years, coming from Susanville, California.
Survivors include a stepson, Mike Lawon-Gilgovan, Reno; a brother, Bill Melton, Cherokee; two sisters; Audrey Sleezer, Moville, Iowa; and Betty Otto, Holstein, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
