Denise A. “Niece” Steward, 42, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 27 1998, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee.
Mrs. Steward was born July 6, 1956, in LeMars, Iowa to Eugene and Eileen (Dreckman) Pottebaum. She graduated from Granville-Spalding High School in 1974 and attended Westmar University for two years. On June 4, 1977, she married Marc Steward in Granville, Iowa. She was employed as a Public Service Supervisor at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the I.C. Ladies Union. She enjoyed golfing, fast pitch softball, volleyball and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Marc; a daughter, Jodi and her special friend, Andy Schlicting, Cherokee; six brothers: Dean Pottebaum and his wife, Roxy, Paullina, Iowa; Doug Pottebaum and his wife, Patti, Lester, Iowa; Dennis Pottebaum and his wife, Nina, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dale Pottebaum and his wife, Kristy, Larchwood, Iowa; Donald Pottebaum and his wife, Kathy, Brandon, South Dakota; and Darin Pottebaum and his special friend, Jodi, Alvord, Iowa; four sisters: DeAnn and her husband, George Drewes, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Doreen and her husband, Brian Kuca, Dante, South Dakota, Dawn and her husband, Glen Bakker, Rock Valley, Iowa; and Darla and her husband, Michael Hart, Arlington, Massachusetts; her parents, Eugene Pottebaum, Rock Valley; and Eileen Pottebaum, Rock Rapids; and 41 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
