Beulah H. Coburn, 81, of Marcus, died Sunday, Nov. 29 at 1:05 a.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. Memorial services will be held today, Dec. 3 from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at rural Marcus. Mrs. Coburn’s remains were cremated. There was a gathering at the Boothby Funeral home Wednesday evening with the family present.

She was born on July 27, 1917, in Tilden Township, Cherokee County to Melvin and Nellie (Bosworth) Simons. She attended Tilden Country School and graduated from Marcus High School. She was married to John F. Coburn on Feb. 22, 1938, in the home of her parents at rural Marcus. She had been a resident of the Marcus area her entire life. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where at one time she was the Sunday School pianist and assistant Sunday School teacher for the Primary Department. She belonged to the Afternoon Card Club and enjoyed having her grandchildren stop in and play cards with her.

She is survived by: two sons, John Coburn Jr. and his wife Eva of Wilsonville, Ore.; and Bradley Coburn and his wife Ann of Marcus; one daughter, Janice Haas, of South Sioux City, Neb.; seven grandchildren, John Coburn III and his wife Cathy; Ward Coburn and his wife Bernadette; Heather Mathis and her husband Jonathan; Heidi Bowen and her husband Paul; Holly Beazley and her husband Russ; Heath Coburn; Angela Winkel and her husband Derek; five great grandchildren: John IV, Daniel, Steven and Grace Coburn and Tyler Mathis; and one sister Ruth Schlenger of Marcus.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband on Oct. 18, 1988; a daughter Barbara Carlson in 1963; two brothers, Donald and Lawrence Simons; and two sisters, Bernice Warburton and Dorothy Simons.
