Wilmer C. Hohbach, 68, of Marcus, died Monday, January 4, 1999, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. Services will be on Thursday, January 7, 1999, at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus with military rites by F. I. Goodburn American Legion Post #517.
Mr. Hohbach was born January 25, 1930, in Tilden Township, rural Marcus, Iowa. He was the son of Adam and Clara (Briggs) Hohbach. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended rural school. He served in the Signal Corps from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He married Ruth Miller on January 10, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa. They had farmed and lived on the Hohbach family farm southeast of Marcus. He also worked for the ASC Office doing land measurement and did refrigeration and air conditioning repair work.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the finance committee and he had been a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held church offices and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Marcus; four sons, Douglas of Sacramento, California; David and his wife Gracia of Matlock, Iowa; Bruce and his wife Jeanne of Lincoln, Nebr.; March and his wife Sarah of Portland, Oregon and a daughter, Janice and her husband Marlen Chinn of Wayne, Nebr.; a brother, Lawrence and his wife Bernice of Marcus; three grandsons, Darwin, Stephen and Brandon Hohbach; six granddaughters, Dana, Megan, Kristen, Rebekah, Katie and Allison Hohbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd in infancy, and a granddaughter, Debra. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook clipping hand dated 1-6-99)
