Mrs. Marvel C. Leonard, 83, Washta, died Aug. 6 in the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Aug. 9 from the Washta United Methodist Church. The burial was in the Quimby Cemetery, with Boothby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 17, 1910, in Cherokee, to Henry and Katherine Quinn Filer. She attended Quimby HIGH School. She was married to Arnold Leonard on Jan. 12, 1929, in Orange City. She had resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein the past one years, prior to this in the Colonial Manor in Correctionville for four years and was a long-time resident of the Washta area. She was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church, the Faith Circle, was active in many church activities, was a member of the Neighborhood Club, the Washta Senior Citizens, and was an avid supporter of the Quimby Band Boosters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 28, 1965; a grandson Zane Leonard in 1975; two brothers, Amos and Ivor; and two sisters Carol and Louise.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Amos and Alma Leonard of Cherokee; Monteno and Beverly Leonard and Wayne and Kathy Leonard of Washta; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Black of Rollins, Wyo.; and Mrs. Zella Fackerall of San Jose, Calif.
