George A. Hammond, 44, of Simi Valley, California, died Wednesday, October 21, 1998, in Simi Valley following a six-month illness.

Memorial services will be held Friday, October 30, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. The body was cremated in California. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa at a later date.

George was born December 29, 1953, in Cherokee County to Cecil and Veris (Fogleman) Hammond. He graduated from Grundy Center High School. He was married to Janey McAllister on January 14, 1984, at West Hills, California. He had been an auto body, repairman for many years. He had lived in Simi Valley for the past 26 years, prior to this in Grundy Center, Iowa and was originally from Cherokee County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cecil Hammond, Jr. and a sister, Deana Faye Hammond.

He is survived by his wife, Janey, and two sons Jonathan of Wenatchee, Washington and Nicholas of Simi Valley, California; four brothers and five sisters, Richard and Gordon Hammond of Cherokee, Iowa, John and Dorie Hammond of Ellsworth, Kansas, Steven and Margaret Hammond of Simi Valley, California, Carol and Bob Beck of Cherokee, Iowa, Koreen and Phillip Tharp of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Patti and Bob Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada, Peggy Nagel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kim Powers of Meriden, Iowa.
