Melvin C. Nelson, 79, of Blue Eye, Mo., died December 28, 1998, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Center, Branson, Mo.

Memorial Services were held on Monday, December 28, 1998, at the Blue Eye United Methodist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Whelchel Funeral Chapel, Branson, Forsyth, Missouri.

Mr. Nelson was born February 15, 1919, in rural Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Cora (Hanson) Nelson. He graduated from Cleghorn High School, Cleghorn, Iowa. Melvin married Jessie (Jerry) Robinson on July 9, 1950, in Cleghorn.

He was a veteran of World War II, a past member of the Masonic Lodge of Marcus, Iowa, and a member of the United Methodist Church, Blue Eye, Mo.

Mr. Nelson was a retired custodian school bus driver. They moved from Cleghorn to the Ozarks in 1980. He enjoyed the beauty and peace of the country, visiting with friends and refinishing furniture.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Jessie, of Blue Eye’ three daughters, Chris Nelson of Hollister, Mo., Mary and her husband Terry Rydeen of Worthington, Minn., and Margaret Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn.: a sister, Mrs. Alyce Blazer of Saugus, Calif., several nieces, and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Don Nelson; his brother, Roy Nelson, and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Gorna. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook clipping)
