Miss Mary Garven died at her father’s residence on the morning of the 15th inst. and was interred in the Marcus cemetery on the afternoon of the following day. Deceased was born in Leeds County, Ontario, September 10, 1855.

A malignant inflammation of the intestine organs was the instrument of death, which proved too fatal despite assiduous care of loving friends and medical aid. She was a worthy member of the Catholic church and received all its sacred rights previous to her demise. Her demure and amiable disposition, and intelligent mind, made her a favorite with all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Her death creates a void in the social circle which none can fill, and a gloom that time cannot efface. Her friends must console their deep affliction with the thought of their native poet:
"There is a world where souls are free,
Where troubles taunt not nature’s bliss,
If death that world’s true opening be,
Oh, who would live a slave in this."
GAIL.
