The funeral of Levi Pearson, American citizen, soldier, farmer and Christian, took place from his late home in Pilot township, on Tuesday afternoon. There was a great gathering of relatives, friends and acquaintances. Forty teams, we are told, followed his remains to their last resting place in the graveyard near the Wesleyan church, including a four-horse wagon filled with veterans of the war. The coffin was opened at the grave and the last look taken of the familiar face. Death had wrought great havoc on the body, ere the soul was released from its tabernacle of clay. After solemn interment, all entered the church which was filled to overflowing. Here an appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev. J. MacAllister, of Cherokee, from Mat. 25:13. “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.”

Wm. Pearson was born in Miami county, Ohio, Feb. 25th, 1846, and was married May 15th, 1873. He leaves a widow, two children, a stepdaughter and an adopted son to mourn his loss. He served his country as a soldier in the 110th Ohio. As to what service he saw or rendered, little is known. He was a quiet, modest man who spoke little of himself. He has been in this country for over 20 years, and was always esteemed as an industrious, honest, hardworking man. He united with the Presbyterian church, March 15, 1884, on confession of his faith, and was for some time a worker in the Wesleyan Sabbath school near by his home.
