Charles Smith, 73, Cherokee
Charles H.D. Smith, 73, of 814 W Cedar St., Cherokee, died Friday, Aug. 3, 1990, in Marian Health Center, Sioux City, following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of Cherokee County his entire life.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee.
He was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Cherokee to Mr. and Mrs. Claude M. Smith. He attended Cherokee schools, graduating from Wilson High School in 1935.
On Dec.21, 1943, he married Shirley Heath in Cherokee. He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Cherokee from 1945 to 1974. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Sanford Museum Association, Cherokee County Historical Society and the Northwest Iowa Archaeological Society.
Survivors include his wife and one sister, Mrs. Loyal (Claudine) Martin of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Source: Cherokee Daily Times, Sat., Aug. 4, 1990, pg. 2)
