Funeral Services Held Saturday for Ed Rice
Funeral Services for Harvey Edwin Rice, 84, life long resident of this community, were held Saturday afternoon from the Wharton Funeral Home. Mr. Rice passed away last Thursday, Sept. 20, at Sioux Valley hospital.
Pallbearers were Orville Hickey, Garland Hickey, Russell McKinnis, Albert Stutz, George Scott and Byron Paulson.
Harvey Edwin (Ed) Rice was born on the family farm near Aurelia April 10, 1872, son of James N and Polly Ann Rice and passed away at Cherokee Thursday noon, Sept. 20, 1956.
On Dec. 25, 1901, he was united in marriage to Florence Reeves and a son, Ronald and daughter ruth, were born to this union. His wife passed away Nov. 17, 1906. On June 24, 1908, he was married to Elva McKluskey, and the couple had lived in this community since that time.
Ed was a member of the Aurelia Knights of Pythias lodge, and was also an ardent sportsman, retaining his interest in outdoor sports as long as health permitted.
Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Elva, his son, Ronald, of Lincoln, Neb., his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Sexton of Aurelia; a sister, Mrs. Ben Packard of Three Rivers, Calif.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
