Donald G. Kilpatrick, 18, of 727 Tenth avenue SW, was killed Saturday morning when the car he was riding in overturned into a ditch just outside the city limits on C street SW river road.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Luke's hospital at 2:10 a.m. Highway patrolman said caused by head and neck injuries.
He was riding in a car driven by Ronald R. LeClere, 18, of 3125 Schaeffer drive SW. The car was a convertible, according to Iowa highway officials.
Treated at St. Lukes's hospital with neck and wrist injuries from the accident was Linda Nord, 16, of 1324 Ninth street NW. Hospital officials said she was released in good condition.
Officials said there were two others in the car that were not injured. They said the car had turned onto a dead end road and in the process of turning around, the car rolled over into the ditch, pinning Kilpatrick underneath.
Highway patrolmen said the car was not going any faster than 10 miles an hours when the accident occurred.
Donald Gregory Kilpatrick was born Dec. 7, 1949, at Waukon and had lived in Cedar Rapids most of his life. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and a 1968 graduate of Jefferson high school.
In addition to his parents he is survived by six brothers, Vincent, Thomas, and Dale, all of Cedar Rapids, Robert of Santa Rosa, Calif., William, Waukon. and Deryl, with the navy in Vietnam; seven sisters, Mrs. Peter Prentice, Rockford, Ill., Lorraine, Waukon, Mrs. Walter Drew, Mrs. Ahmed Kalell, Elaine, Evelyn, and Linda, all of Cedar Rapids, a grandmother, Anna Mellick, Waukon, and grandfather Charles Kilpatrick, Waukon.
Services are pending at the Teahen funeral home.
