Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude A. Eno, resident of Villisca for the last 16 years, were held Monday, February 16, 1953 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Corning conducted by the Rev. Ben Bradbury.
Pall bearers were Gail Brown, Eugene Chappell, Edward Chappell, Fred Eno, Theo Beckwith, Duane Beckwith, and the singing was by Maxine Narigon and Mrs. Ben Bradbury accompanied by Mrs. Millie Devore. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery with the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca in charge.
Gertrude A. Eno, eldest daughter of George Riley Beckwith and Rhoda Elinda Hoagland, was born at Pleasantville, Iowa on April 8, 1873 and died at the home of her son Harvey A. Eno at Villisca on February 14, 1953, at the age of 79.
She was united in marriage to Albert Eno in 1895 at Carl, Iowa and to this union were born three children. Two died in infancy. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1933, her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Surviving are the son, Harvey, grandson, Paul Fredrick Eno, great grandson, Charles Kurtis Eno, of Villisca, also three sisters, Mrs. A. G. Litton, Powell, Wyoming, Mrs. E. C. Brown, Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Lester Chappell, Corning.
In her youth, Mrs. Eno united with the Adams County First Baptist Church, later transferring to the Baptist Church in Corning. She enjoyed church work greatly and missed it when she was unable to attend on account of ill health. After her husband’s death, she continued to live in Corning, until her health failed in 1936, she she came to Villisca, making her home with her son and his wife.
