Loren N. Beckwith was born in Marion County, Iowa, May 2, 1884 and died of consumption at the home of his parents in Corning, Iowa, March 16, 1905, aged 20 years, 10 months, and 14 days. Loren was the son of George Riley Beckwith and Rhoda Elinda Hoagland, and one of a family of ten children, four girls and six boys, of whom together with the parents and a large number of friends remain to mourn his departure. He was a young man of good habits and although he had not formally become identified with any church, yet he had expressed faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to receive the right of Christian Baptism, but on account of the condition of his health was not able to carry out his desire. Nevertheless, we believe the Master accepts the will for the deed in every such instance for “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe the in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The impressive funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Friday March 17, 1905, conducted by Rev. Orr Campbell, of Indianola, who preached a tender and helpful sermon to all. Those who attended the funeral from afar were Rev. D. C. Phillips and family of Cromwell, Iowa and Mrs. Elliott Vorrhees of Earlham, Iowa.
