Charles Kuhn Dusenberry was born July 27, 1917 to Lee and Mary Ellen Dusenberry. He died Nov. 12, 1942 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and has a cenotaph in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington County, IA.
Petty Officer Dusenberry served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hugh L. Scott (AP-43) and was MIA/KIA when that ship was torpedoed, near Fedhala, Morocco, by a German U-boat. He had survived the attack on Pearl Harbor during which he was wounded and spent several weeks in a military hospital in Hawaii. He also served aboard ships that participated in the invasions of the Marshall and Gilbert Islands in the Pacific, before being transferred to the Atlantic Fleet and participating in the Allied invasion of French North Africa.
