the room. Jeweler L. A. Heimark was scoutmaster with Anderson and Peter Barthelme serving as his assistants.

Later this year a field day was held at Cornell Park. This camp had five tents holding exhibitions of handicraft. Over three hundred Ossianites viewed the attractively arranged displays.

A troop of girl scouts was formed in 1940. They were sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary. The twenty six young ladies, who enrolled, were led by Mrs. Thearon Hauge.

A court of honor was hosted by the Ossian Scouts at the opera house early in 1941. Several boys advanced to second class. Jerry and Tommy Scholz qualified for merit badges in six classifications. Ray Busack, the manager of the Frudden Lumber Co., became the new scoutmaster in June. Tommy Scholz, Dick Ryan and Billy Dessel were chosen to head the three patrols. Morris Wolfe served as troop scribe. The boys conducted a door to door campaign to gather junk aluminum for the defense effort. About 300 lbs. were collected.

Ralph Anderson again served as scoutmaster in 1942. The membership that year included: John Andresen, Silas Sevatson, Paul DeCou, Jerry Oyloe, Donald Weidow, Hugo Barthelme, G. F. Gunderson, Greg Remke, Richard Ryan, Clem Blocker, John Boyle, Paul Gerlich, Donald Larson, Raymond Beer, William Weir, Lyle Larson, Robert Klisart Donald Schroeder, Jerry Scholz, Tommy Scholz, William Dessel, Gayle Gilbert, Bryam Gilbert, Lloyd Weidow, Greg Sand, Lester Torresdal, Morris Wolfe, Robert Oyloe and Norbert Zweibohmer. This group collected $37.50 from audiences at the Ossian Theatre in behalf of the war activities committee.

The year of 1943 found sponsorship of the Ossian scouts transferred to the Lutheran Church. Rev. Fiskerbeck headed a governing committee composed of Nan-fred Sand, Ole Hendrickson Jr., Dr. Larson, Don Amundsen and Glen Mundt. The organization had two patrols: the Hawks with Bob Hardy as leader; Roger Holder, assist.; and Nanfred Sand Jr., scribe—the Bears led by Bob Oyloe; Bradley Brockman, assistant; and Jack Goggin, scribe. Other new names in this group were; Luke Klisart, Norbert Johnson, Conley Linderbaum, Paul Strand, Bob Hardy, Walter Oxley, Charles Heines, Lowell Gilbert, Mel Klisart, Kenneth Witt and Jack Felix. Ray Hardy and Lloyd Strand served as scoutmasters.

A court of honor was held in the church basement with Commissioner Ayres in charge. Robert Hardy, Norbert Johnson, Jack Felix, Jack Goggin, Walter Oxley, Bradley Brockman, Robert Oyloe and Luke Klisart received first and second class badges. This troop convassed Ossian's homes for scrap paper, rags and tin cans in behalf of the war effort.

The girl scouts, under the direction of leader Helen Evans, went Christmas caroling during the holiday season of 1944.

Legion post 503 agreed to take over the sponsorship of a scout troop in 1948. The scout charter was reinstated. Cyril Figge was chosen to head the committee in charge of the group. Gerald Oyloe agreed to serve as scoutmaster with the assistance of Virgil Anderson and Hugo Barthelme. A court of honor was held at the public school. Tenderfoot awards were given to Dale Skinner, Richard Hemesath and Du Wayne Schweinifus. The following boys were promoted to second class:

Melvin Leuenberger, Leonard Zweibohmer, Robert Einck and Patrick Rooney. Warren Brom received three merit badges.

In 1952, a Wapsipinican Area Council Court of Honor was hosted by troop 88 under scoutmaster Silas Sevatson. The Ossian scouts won the traveling trophy for the third consecutive time. Karl Schroeder advanced to first class, Albert Thuente to second class, and Patrick Rooney received five merit badges and a star.

The following year, at a Court of Honor held in the First Lutheran Church at Decorah, the troop was awarded an eagle feather. Karl Schroeder became a Star Scout and Billy Mosby and Myron Ott were admitted as tenderfeet.

Five Ossian scouts—Karl Schroeder, James Barthelme, Karl Schmitz, David Sevatson and Dirk Amundsen—attended the National Scout Jamboree in California.

A court of honor held in the gymnasium of the Ossian public school, awarded
