John William Bailey of Webster City, former resident of Lehigh, 59, died
Sunday evening May 28, 1949 at the hospital in Webster City.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Lehigh Methodist
church, preceded by a brief service at 1 p. m. at the Foster funeral home in
Webster City. The Rev. Lester Heck of Lehigh will officiate. Burial will be
at Oak Grove cemetary south of Lehigh.
Mr. Bailey, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samual Bailey, was born near
Lehigh April 7, 1890. He grew up in the community and served in World war 1.
He married Mary Ellen Carpenter Dec 30, 1919, and they farmed in the
vicinity of Lehigh, Stratford and Vincent. In 1941 they retired and moved to
Lehigh. Two years later they moved to Webster City.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife: five children, Mrs. James Staley,
Mrs. Marvin Adams, William Bailey, Julia Bailey and Walter Bailey; four
brothers, George of Walnut Grive, Minn., ((Richard)) (Richard was a typo,
should be David) of Fort Dodge, Cleve and Thomas of Lehigh; and three
sisters, Mrs Hester Young of Fort Dodge. Mrs. Alta Fye of California and
Mrs. Birdie Harrah of Eagle Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and a daughter who
died in infancy.
