Eddyville was founded by Jabish P. Eddy, in 1841, before Iowa became a state. It was a place for trade with the Indians and for pioneers to provision and ford the Des Moines river.

Mrs Harry Winograsky went to Des Moines Friday to help care for her grandchildren, who have the chickenpox. Mr Winograsky and her mother, Mrs Audie Crosson, took her up. They spent Sunday with Jack Crosson and family, Grinnel.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Townsley and son, Orville, and Fred Linderman visited their niece, Mrs Lytle Cloyd, Albia. There were celebrating the birthday anniversary of Mrs Ownsley.

Mr and Mrs P W Zieke and son, Jimmy and Mrs Donald Zieke, Alton, Ill., spent the week end with their mother and grand mother, Mrs Audie Crosson.

Dick Stravers, who has been a surgical patient in the Ottumwa hospital, was brought home Monday.

Mr and Mrs John L Gallagher returned Friday evening from a visit with their daughter, Mrs Mel Kirchman, St Louis, MO.

Mr and Mrs Carl Mich and daughters, Oskaloosa; mr and Mrs Henry Verploegh ate supper in the parental Chris Verploegh home. Mrs Mich, Mrs Chris Verploegh and Mrs Henry Verploegh called at the Ottumwa hospital Wednesday to see Dick Stravers.

Callers in the Cornelia Cornelissen home during the past week were Mr and Mrs Virgil Grandia and children, Oskaloosa, Geo Goode, Des Moines, and Mrs Carl Powell.

Mr and Mrs John Aalsburg and children, Grand Rapids, Mich.,

Visited their aunt, Mrs Anton Aalsburg. Other caller were Mrs Anton Knoot and children and Mr and Mrs Tunis Aalsburg and children.

Announcement has been received of the birth of a son, Theodore William, to Mr and Mrs John Den Hartog, Coalinga, Calif., Nov. 25, 1953. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Bastain DenHartog, Fresno, Calif., and a grandson of Mr and Mrs John VanDyke, Eddyville, and a nephew of the DenHartog families.

Mr and Mrs Tunis Van Zante visited their daughter, Mrs Lloyd Stansberry near Ottumwa, Monday.

Several old neighbors held a gettogether in the Tunis Van Zante home. Sunday. A cooperative dinner was served and all enjoyed this gettogether. Those present were Mr and Mrs W E Roberts, Mrs John L Powell, Ray and Miss Audrie Empleton. Disagreeable weather prevented several from attending.

Mr and Mrs John Coleman, Ottumwa, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr and Mrs Dick Lutz.

Mrs Edward Purdin, who is over near Albia, helping care for her mother, Mrs C R Williams, was home for over Sunday. She is now somewhat improved.

Mr and Mrs Gene Black and daughter, Deborah, Washington, was over Sunday visitors in the parental Fred Black home.

Mr and Mrs George Youngbear, called in the M G True store Saturday afternnon, They had dinner in the home of her at the tiem of the Eddyville Centennial and he later worked in the stone quarry south of town. Mr Youngbear asked to be remembered to his friends here.

Mrs Addie Carter returned Wednesday from a tow weeks visit with her son, Eugene Kussart and family, Des Moines. While there she attended the family dinner at the home of her granddaughter, Thanksgiving day.

Mrs Marion Hendricks and her children, Carol ann and Michael were Monday evening guests in the Harold Cook home. Mr and Mrs Lester Groenenboom and children, Gayle Lea and Sallie, Pella, were Tuesday visitors.

Mr and Mrs Jerrold Conaway and son, Cedar Rapids, moved the latter part of the week to the Odem apartment over the Odem Hardware store.

Earl Sheets and family have moved to the R M Smith property on South Third street. Mr Sheets has employment with Mr Smith.

Mr and Mrs Joseph Forsythe, Mr and Mrs William H Forsythe and children, Gregg and Cinda, Ottumwa; Mr and Mrs Willie Forsythe and children, George and LaVonie, Mrs Eva Forsythe, Kirkville, and Mrs Maae Ward spent Thursday with the mother, grandmother and sister, Mrs Minnie Forsythe, Kirkville, Thursday.

Mesdames Minnie Forsythe, Eva Forsythe, Frank Ross and Leonard Allison, Kirkville, visited Mae Ward Wednesday afternoon. Callers during the week were Mesdames Berde Scott, Rober, grandmother and sister, Mrs Judy, Carroll McMullin and Dick VanGenderen, jr.

Mr and Mrs Robert DenHartog, Winfield, spent the week end with his cousin, Mrs Robert Bloodsworth. Sunday visitors were Mrs Bob Reynolds and children and Mrs B Merringer, all of Ottumwa.

Thursday guests in the J Lee Wonderlich home were Mr and Mrs J L Wonderlich, Mr and Mrs Charles Wonderlich and family, and Mr and Mrs Robert Wonderlich, Mr and Mrs Milford all of Ollie. Sunday visitors were Mr and Mrs Eugene Kessell, and Mr and Mrs Leonard Kessell, Ollie.

SELL PROPERTIES

The latter part of the week there were two real estate changes Dr J E Traister sold his office building near the corner of Walnut & North Third street to Roy Van Loon. He will continue to have his office in the building. The doctor then sold the property that joins his own home to Lewis Converse, Oskaloosa. The new owner will move his family to their new home about the first of the year. Mr Converse is an ISU employee. – Eddyville Tribune, Thursday, December 10^th, 1953
