Ken James
of Columbia, Mo has sent this picture that he believes to be a great grandfather
of Glenn Barton's. Perhaps a Barton or a Williams. Can anyone help identify
this man.
He believes that it was taken in the 1880's and assumes that it was made near Bedford, Ia. His step-grandmother says that her husband had the portrait when they were married in 1950. The portrait was given to him by a relative unknown to her. She thinks it is a relative of the Bartons of Bedford, IA. All of Glenn Barton's parents and grandparents lived around New Market and Bedford. If it is of a great grandparent of Glenn's then it could possibly have been taken in Henry County, IA, since that is where the Bartons and the Williams families came from. The Williams family and Barton
families came to Taylor County after the Civil War. There is nothing written
on the back of the portrait. |
Update - Pat I came across the photo of what may have been Glenn Barton’s great grandfather on the Taylor County web site. If Glenn is a descendent of William Barton is it possible that the portrait was of William Barton? William was born in 1799 or 1800 and lived until at least 1895. I have come across some information on William Barton before he came to Iowa some time after 1860. If any one is interested in what I have I will be glad to share it. My new email address is cdflowers@toast.net
