Marshall County Recorder

The Recorder's Office maintains the birth, marriage, death and land records for Marshall County. The office is located at the Marshall County Courthouse, 1 E Main Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, 50158. (641) 754-6323
Birth Records

The birth records begin in 1880. They do not have single parent births before 1986, adoptions prior to 1986, records sealed by court order and vital records between 1921-1941. Uncertified copies are available for $5 and certified copies cost $15.
Death Records

Death records also begin in 1880.Uncertified copies are available for $5 and certified copies cost $15.
Probate Records

Start in 1850
Include: Guardianships, adoptions, will and estate proceedings. These records are available in the County Clerk's Office also located in the Marshall County Courthouse
Land Records

Records start in 1848 and include Town and City Lot Deeds/Cemetery Deeds/Grantee and Grantor Indexes
Soldier's Discharge Records/Homestead Records
Marriage Records

Marriage records also begin in 1880. The first marriage recorded was between Jacob Miller and Harriett Ballard on July 4, 1850.
