What We're Working on Now (WWWON)

WWWON is designed to recognize the works in progress of our volunteers and to encourage new volunteers to join in. Please choose Contact above for questions, or Volunteer if you are ready to pitch in.

The county coordinator has taken photos of the tombstones at the Deerfield Cemetery. These have all been uploaded to the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project (IGPP). Similarly, volunteer David Steninger is taking photos of the West Cemetery in Fredricksburg. We are working to create complete listings of the known burials for these sites. These listings will include the names from the WPA survey.

These efforts are part of a seven-year plan to document every known burial in Chickasaw County. The COVID-19 pandemic has made the five-year plan a seven-year plan, but we are otherwise back on track.

A volunteer is transcribing "orphaned" obituaries from scanned newspaper clippings, and uploading them to the Obituaries section. Our volunteers are the backbone of the IAGenWeb.
