Tilden Township  Early Schools

An $800 schoolhouse went up in Tilden township in the year 1871. This first school session was taught on March 4, 1871 by Martha Goodrich. She was receiving $84 for a three month term.

The local news paper reports on March 15, 1872 that there are two good school houses in the township.  Both of them were built in 1871.  Mr. M. W. Curl was the teacher in district No. 1 school.   The teacher in Districte No. 2 was Miss L. Spinharney.

On July 19, 1872, bidding opened to build a school house in sub district no. 3.   Miss West eventually taught at that school when it was completed.

The Tilden school houses were being used by preachers and public speakers in October 1872.
