The Browning Literary Club of Atlantic was organized in 1899 by a group of local teachers. It was first named the Tennyson Club, but the club name was changed within the first year to The Browning Literary Club. The club studied literature and cultural topics, and it began working toward establishment of a town library. The cook book is undated, but the 1913 Industrial Edition history indicates this second edition is "now in the hands of the publishers", making the cook book circa 1913.
