VICTOR M. BRADSHAW, the first settler in Brighton Township, was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, on November 2, 1829. When he was one year old, his family moved to Edgar County, Illinois, and in 1847 the Bradshaws moved to Iowa, first residing in Wapello County for one year and then in Mahaska County for three years. In the spring of 1851, the family moved to what is now Cass County. Victor Bradshaw had married Mary A. John before his family settled at Cold Spring, and shortly after his arrival here, he established himself on a claim located about one mile south of the present site of Marne. He afterward moved back to the settlement at Indiantown and was later elected to numerous political offices, including those of county sheriff, county assessor, Cass Township clerk and Lewis city clerk.
