JOHN W. BERRY was born in Menard County, Illinois, on March 29, 1835. On January 6, 1859, he married Harriet Bell, and in February, 1867, moved to Brighton Township and settled on Section 32. Ten children resulted from this marriage, of whom five reached adulthood: Mary, William, Robert, Cordelia and Iona. In the early 1900's, Mr. Berry's lands included 500 acres of good farmland.
