1. W. P. EGBERT, deceased, found of the Egbert Gallery and Egbert Photographic Studio, was born in Pennsylvania in 1831 and his younger manhood was spent in that state. In the 40's he was in the photographic business in Pittsburgh, but did not claim any particular distinction in the business until 1852, when he opened a gallery in Davenport, Iowa. He continued in the business in that city until 1876, when his gallery was destroyed by fire, and in 1877 he came to Atlantic and engaged in the photograph business, which he continued to the time of his death, January 19, 1903. His gallery became noted from the first for the excellence of its work, and this reputation was maintained during all the years of his life, and is now continued by his son, Hal H., who is its manager. The subject of this sketch was one of Atlantic's best citizens, interested in all that pertained to the moral and material good of the community, and he died as he had lived, loved and respected by all.

2. Hal H. EGBERT, of the Egbert photograph studio, Atlantic, Iowa, was born in Davenport, Iowa, June 6, 1876, and when eighteen months old came with his parents to Atlantic. He attended the Atlantic public schools, and spent his spare time and vacations about his father's gallery, getting an insight into the business and acquiring a talent and liking for it. In 1890 he became associated with his father, the late W. P. EGBERT, in the business, relieving him of many of its cares, and in 1896 he acquired practical control of the business his father's health necessitating his doing so. Upon the death of the best photographers in the United States, if not the world, and this reputation "Hal" is maintaining in every way. He is a member of the Knights of Pythias and is genial and courteous in his business and personal relations with his fellows.
