E. S. PHILLIPS

E.S. PHILLIPS, cashier of the State Bank of Lewis, Lewis, Iowa, was born in Deerfield, Mass., November 13, 1854. He went to Chicago, in the spring of 1877 and came west to Shelby County, Iowa, in the fall of 1878, and to Lewis January 12, 1884. He entered the employ of the Rock Island railway in Chicago March 1, 1878, and continued in their employ, as agent and operator, until June 15, 1904, since which time he has been cashier of the State Bank of Lewis. He is an efficient aid in the business of the bank and has made many friends in and about Lewis by his genial and accomodating disposition. He was for a long time agent at Lewis for the Rock Island Railroad. [No Photo]

1. W. E. SIMPSON, President of the Bank of Marne, Marne, Iowa, was born in 1860 in Indiana, and lived in that state until 1885, when he came to Cass County, locating at Marne. He engaged in the grain business, buying for the Davenport Glucose Company, and continued with that company until 1888, when, in company with G.F. BRIGHAM, they bought the bank at Marne of the Rutts. Mr. BRIGHAM retired from the banking business in 1891, Mr. SIMPSON buying his interests, and since that time he has been operating it alone.

The bank has a capital of $ 25,000 and is domiciled in a building 20 x 34, built expressly for it, with modern furnishings, and is an ideal bank home. The business has been exceptionally properous and the bank enjoys the confidence of a large list of substantial patrons.

Mr. SIMPSON is married and has one son. He is a Mason and a genial and upright gentleman in all of his public and private relations in life.

2. W. C. HARVEY, Cashier of the Bank of Marne, was born in Muscatine, Iowa, in 1850, and lived there and at Letts, in Lousia County, until 28 years of age. In 1878 he came to Marne and in company with his brother engaged in general merchandise business. He then engaged in stock and grain buying, continuing in that business until he entered the service of the Bank of Marne. He has acted in the capacity of cashier of the bank for four years and is known as one of the strong banking men of the county. He is married and the father of two daughters and a son. He is a member of the A. O. U. W. and takes much interest in the affairs of that order. Personally genial and accommodating he has built up a strong clientelle of friends in and about Marne.
