December 11, 1939 - January 3, 2025
Jean Marie Verzani, formerly of Sioux City, died on January 3, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, after a lengthy illness.
A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
Jean Marie (Wilderman) Verzani was born on December 11, 1939, in West Bend, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arnold and Marie (Dunn) Wilderman. She was raised in West Bend, Iowa, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1957.
Jean went on to attend St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing and graduated in 1960. She worked as a registered nurse for a brief time but spent most of her life employed full-time by her family.
On July 19, 1967, Jean was united in marriage to Joseph Alphonse Verzani in Denver, Colorado. Together they raised their seven children in Sioux City, Iowa. Because she was the mother of seven children and the wife of a railroad engineer, she was likely the most overworked person in Sioux City, except when Days of Our Lives was on. Nothing was accomplished during that hour, which her children were most grateful for. Jean spent all her adult life dedicated to her children. Their passions became her passion; their achievements were her achievement; their joys were her joy. Mom, you will be missed.
Survivors include four daughters and their husbands: Jennifer and Monte Morris of Omaha, Nebraska; Andrea and Paul Willoughby of Davenport, Iowa; Sara Verzani and Shane Martin of Sioux City; Elizabeth and Jason Carrell of Sioux City. She is also survived by three sons and their wives: Michael Verzani of Lawton, Iowa; Matthew and Sara Verzani of Sioux City, Iowa; Jason and Renee Verzani of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; as well as 18 grandchildren; Patrice, Marcus, Paul, Olivia, Kane, Gage, Mason, Allison, Zachary, Ashley, Sophia, Giovanni, Aiden, Cicely, Jackson, Logan, Gracie, and Mia, four great-grandchildren (and counting), and her sister-in-law Elaine Wilderman.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Marie Wilderman; her husband Joseph Verzani; her brother Arnold "Butch" Wilderman; and a grandson Dominic Verzani.
