THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING.
Rev. and Mrs. H. H. Green Passed Fiftieth Anniversary on Monday Last.
On November 9th, 1864, Harry H. Green and Mary Bennett were united in marriage at Lyons, Iowa. On Monday last their children gathered at their home in Decorah to help them celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this event.
There were present:--
Mrs. J. D. Maynard and son, Prof. H. H. Maynard, Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Green and two children, Ewing, Neb.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Jennings and son, Janesville, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Green and two sons, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Mrs. W. G. Johnson and four children, Ogden, Utah.
Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Green and three children, Decorah, Iowa
Mr. Marion Green, Chicago, Ill
Mrs. Lydia Fox, Odebolt, Iowa, (sister of Mrs. Green).
The day was spent in the happy way that can only be appreciated by those who have enjoyed a like experience. At the close of the afternoon the party sat down to dinner at the Winneshiek hotel. Practically the whole of Rev. and Mrs. Green’s life together has been spent in “the vineyard of the Lord” As a pastor in the Methodist Episcopal church Rev. Green has been stationed at some of the principal charges in Northeastern Iowa, serving as well as district superintendent of the Dubuque and Decorah districts for successive terms in both districts, and rendering distinguished service to his church. In this service he has been ably assisted by his wife. They have enjoyed unusual freedom from the ills of life, and while the years have been added to their score, we who have known them for so long seldom think of them as “old people” because they have kept so young in spirit as well as in health.
In common with their many friends the REPUBLICAN extends hearty congratulations and hopes that many anniversaries may be added to the happy one of last Monday.
