Obituary
Waldon M. Trogden was born near Seymour, December 24, 1875 and met a violent death at Kansas City, Feb 2, 1909. Some time ago he opened a restaurant in Seymour, and Monday morning, Feb. 1, he took the early train for Kansas City where he went to purchase additional fixtures. In the evening he was on his way to the station to return home, accompanied by his cousin, Mr. Welch. As they were walking on the track of the Belt Line, they were struck by a switch engine and he was thrown under the train, the engine and two cars passing over him. He was taken up in an unconscious condition and removed to a hospital, where all possible was done to save his life but all in vain, and he passed away early Tuesday morning. About ten years ago he went to Montana where he lived for some time, removing from there to Tennessee, and again to Iola, Kansas, returning to Iowa in August 1907. November 6, 1902 he was married at Corydon, Iowa, to Miss Grace Mumby. Two children were born to them, one of whom is living, the other dying in infancy. While living at Iola, Kansas, he became a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and after returning to Seymour transferred his membership here. He was in good standing at the time of his death. Beside the wife and daughter, the near relatives who are left to mourn, are his father of Merrimau, Neb., his brothers Nathan and Judge of Montana, Carl of Texas, and two sisters, Mrs. W. T. Stewart of Iola, Kansas, and Mrs. Joe Cain of Seymour. Mr. Trogden was a man of good reputation; he was a dutiful son, an affectionate brother, an indulgent husband, and a loving father. His many friends will mourn as they recall his untimely death. Funeral services were held Friday forenoon at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. L. M. Beebe. The Modern Woodmen were present in a body, and conducted the burial service at the cemetery. Interment was in Southlawn.
