Town Of LaMotte Named For Alexander LaMotte.

Owen Montague purchased the land where the Town of LaMotte is located from the United States government in 1847. He named the town after his friend Alexander LaMotte. Mr. LaMotte was born in Paris in 1818 and died in 1871. He is buried in a cemetery ten miles southwest of Maquoketa. LaMotte’s only living son now resides in Brighton, Washington County, Iowa.
