(February 26, 1925 - January 7, 2018)

Allen Bruce passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the age of 91. Memorial funeral services for Allen will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, January 11, 2018 also at the funeral home. Interment of ashes with military honors will follow services at the Palmyra Cemetery.
Allen Ned Bruce was born February 26, 1926 to Charles Emerson Bruce and Alma Opal Gardner of rural Palmyra, Iowa. He is survived by his children Karen Sinclair (Gary), Judy Russell, and Nadine Kohn (Doug). He had seven grandchildren: Robert Sinclair (Theresa), Jennifer Beck (David), Amanda Sinclair, Michael Russell (Jennifer), Barbara Burnham (Brian), Jill Bjorklund (Mark), and Angela Wright. He had fifteen great grandchildren: Samantha, Tyler, Jessica, Wyatt, Logan, Ally, Calvin, Nolan, Charlie, Anna, Ben, Beau, Noah, Jonah, and Cameron. He is also survived by his sister, Ina Mae Gale, who remained a constant source of love and comfort from the day he was born until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dezerra Davison Bruce, his son David Bruce, and son Ron Edward Bruce, his parents, Charles and Opal, and his stepmother, Mildred. Allen spent almost his entire life in rural Warren County on the family farm established by Moses Bruce in 1860. He served his country in WWII and then returned to Iowa where he began farming with his father. In 1950, after his father's death, Allen moved his family to the homestead and took over the farming operations.
Allen met Dezerra on a blind date in 1946, and proposed at the Y-Knot-Grill in 1947. They spent the next 65 years together raising their children and farming. They thoroughly enjoyed trips with friends to Canada, Minnesota, Yellowstone Natl. Park, Hawaii, and Washington DC. They also loved spending time at Reynold's pond and picnics at Richard's timber. Allen served on the Carlisle School Board, served as a trustee for the Palmyra Township, and worked for the county ASC office. He was a good neighbor and could be seen after every snow storm making the rounds of plowing neighbors' driveways. Allen enjoyed hunting and fishing trips, playing cards, hunting for mushrooms and spending time with friends.
