The only one I remember is of 1947. We were evacuated and were housed in the high school. I really remember that one. The river came up and got us almost every year. We lived on Pershing Avenue which is now called Gateway. That is where the UPS station is right now. Several businesses were there including the Milwaukee Tavern, Hardsog's and DeGrott grocery store; 2 churches; Salvation Army and Pentecostal Church. There was also a railroad station. All were flooded quite frequently. I remember Santa Claus coming to town on back of train handing out candy & also Stephenson; candidate for President. Lots of memories there of my youth.
