You should contact the Wapello County Recorder's Office to request a copy of the birth certificate. Under a recent change to Iowa law, you can request a copy by e-mail, fax or by phone. The e-mail address is waprecorder@pcsia.net and phone is (641) 683-0045. Cost for a non-certified birth certificate is $3 and can be sent by check or money order.

Be aware that birth certificates were not required to be registered with the county until 1880.
