Can somebody please help in bring back this stone??
Greetings, Mary!

We corresponded briefly about a month ago regarding Rachel Jane Mace's marble headstone, which somehow wound up in Arizona. We have secured it and it is currently being stored in our vault.

We would like to have this stone returned to the Agency Cemetery in Wapello County, Iowa, from whence it seems to have come. We can send you more detailed photos of the stone if you need to match it to a base that is still in that cemetery. It's the size of a standard Civil-War issue headstone and is light enough to be handled by two persons.

Would you please contact the organization that manages the Agency Cemetery and find out what they would like us to do with the stone? We know that many Midwesterners come to the Phoenix area each year as winter visitors. Perhaps you (or they) could find such a person in the Ottumwa area who would be willing to haul the stone back to Iowa in their RV next spring. After all, 'graving' enthusiasts are renowned for their altruism!
