There are two ways to get to the Myrick Cemetery near Chillicothe, Iowa. One is from Hwy 63/old Hwy 23 and another (unpaved road) directly from Ottumwa.
Speaking of the paved road from Hwy 63/Hwy 23....ride on either highway (63 or 23) [coming from either Eddyville and Ottumwa [Hwy 63] and just from Ottumwa (taking old Hwy 23)]....you ride down the Chillicothe road from Hwy 63 or old Hwy 23 to go over the bridge overlooking the Des Moines River into the small town of Chillicothe. Once you are in this tiny town, just drive straight from the bridge/railroad tracks up the small hill until you see the stop sign. Turn left on this paved road (which will turn into an unpaved road at a point) and drive over the Avery Creek bridge to go past one house and then when you see the second house on the right side, just turn right onto the farm or alley road (just before the house itself) and drive a short length and stop your car & leave it parked. Then walk a short way to your right until you see the opening to the Myrick Cemetery (which is almost a perfect square lined all around by several trees, with visible gravestones).
If you drive toward Chillicothe directly from Ottumwa using the mixture of UNPAVED AND PAVED ROAD, you drive from the intersection of Hwy 34 and Quincy Avenue in Ottumwa (where you see the Applebee's Restaurant and the Ottumwa Theater) going northwest. You drive on this road until you reach a fork (with a stop sign). Just keep going on that road alongside the railroad tracks until you reach the 2nd house (from Chillicothe) and turn left onto the farm or alley road & drive on it for a short way until you need to park your car. Then walk to the right until you see the opening to Myrick Cemetery.
If you feel lost, just ask the owners of any house on that UNPAVED road between Chillicothe and Ottumwa for specific directions. Good luck!
P.S. I wish USGENWEB or Iowa Gen Web does have the insert capability for people to copy and paste anything into their posts. I drew a map of the direction to the Myrick Cemetery but the problem is this website does not appear to have this insert capability, unfortunately! (or the attachment file capability as well)
