Former Bloomfield resident Cleta Matthews, 75, of Palmyra, Mo., died at 1:45 a.m. March 21, 1991, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, mo.
She was born December 10, 1915, in Davis County to Jake and Ida Wimp Gordy. She married Rev. William "Eric" Matthews in June, 1952, in Parthenon, ARk. He died June 2, 1971.
She was a school teacher, retiring in 1983 from the Pennsylvania school system. She had lived in Palmyra for the past five years and was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Union City, Penn., past member of Barker Methodist Church, member of the Pennsylvania School Education Association and National Education Association.
She is survived by a son, Gordon of Durham, N.C.; three sisters, Velva Lunsford of Palmyra, Mo., and Neva Gordy of Bloomfield and a brother, Russell Gordy of Mount Sterling.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
The service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 1991 at Barker Methodist Church in Scotland County, Mo., the Rev. Elbert Dougherty officiating. Burial was in Barker Cemetery.
Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, was in charge of arrangements.
