Earl Fickel rites Sunday

Earl Fickel, 80, Indianola, formerly of Fairfield, died suddenly Thursday morning at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Sunday before the service. A memorial has been established to Handicapped Village in Clear Lake.

Fickel was born April 12, 1907 in Van Buren County, the son of Alfred and Effie Bonnett Fickel. He married Mary Helen Billingsley April 24, 1929 in Mount Pleasant. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1925 and lived in the Fairfield community until moving to Indianola in 1953. He was a livestock and grain farmer and did carpentry work until retiring in 1963.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert of Letts, Donald of Fairfield; four daughters, Lola Belle Ranard of Ankeny, Marilyn (Korseberg) of Washburn, Wis., Dorothy Crawford of Houston, Texas, Mary Sue Fickel of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Fickel of Fairfield, Ervin of Ames and Elvin of Lake (Panora???a).

A sister preceded him in death.

Fickel was a member of IOOF No. 70 in Indianola, Patriarch Militant, Iowa Encampment No. 6. Since 1966, he had been Grand Scribe and Secretaries Association. He was a past secretary of the Southeast Angus Breeders Association and was a 4-H leader.
