Searching for Great Grandfather

I am looking for the birth record for my Great Grandfather. I know the following: He was born between 1895 and 1900. On my father's birth certificate, his father's name is recorded as Edwin Stover. I obtained my great grandfather's 1931 Oregon death certificate and his name is recorded as Dick Stover. I saw a newspaper article reporting his death and his place of birth is shown as Iowa. I am new at genealogy searches. Any direction or information you might have to assist me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
