Tama - Milton B. Wilkinson, 81, pioneer farmer of Iowa, died at his home here Monday at 10:15 p.m. after an illness of five weeks. He suffered a fracture of the right leg just below the hip in a fall Aug. 29, and resulting complications caused his death.

The eldest son of Anthony and Sarah Ann Graham Wilkinson, he was born Nov. 26, 1854, on a farm two miles south of Chelsea. He grew to manhood on the homestead there, and in 1878, with his father and his brother, Albert A. Wilkinson, he drove a covered wagon to Gowrie, in Webster County, to break prairie soil on land that his father had bought from the government. They returned home for the winter and the next year, Mr. Wilkinson remained at home to care for the farm while his father and brother were caring for the crops on the new land.

In 1881 he moved to the new home where a sister, Mrs. T. A. Trimble, kept house for him and his brother until the brother's marriage in 1883.

On Sep. 15, 1885, Mr. Wilkinson was married to Eva A. Price, daughter of E. H. and Sarah Price. He took his bride to his new home at Gowrie, where they resided until 1907, when they moved to Tama. Mrs. Wilkinson died June 18, 1923.

Mr. Wilkinson, although he never joined a church, always attended the Methodist Church and was interested in its welfare.

Surviving him is a daughter, Iva L., now Mrs. A. J. Sandeen of Tama. Eight years ago Mrs. Sandeen and her husband moved from Minnesota to care for Mr. Wilkinson in his home. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. T. A. Trimble, of Brookline, Mass.

Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday at 2 p.m. followed by services at 2:30 p.m. at the Harrison Chapel. The Rev. Emma Arnold, pastor of the Methodist Church at Chelsea and Haven, will officiate. Mrs. Frank Fowler, accompanied at the piano by Miss Lulu McCall, will sing. The pallbearers will be Frank Graham, John Wiseman, S. A. Carmichael, L. G. Jackson, Thomas Griswold and L. Walter Carpenter. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
