Burial Rites for Mrs. Chas. D. Reed at Ames Today
Ames, Mar. 5--The body of Mrs. Charles D. Reed, 72, who died at a hospital in Des Moines Sunday, will be brought to Ames this afternoon for burial, following, funeral rites at the funeral home in Des Moines. There will be brief services at the cemetery upon the arrival there of the funeral cortege.
Mrs. Reed, wife of United States meteorologist of Des Moines, died at the Methodist hospital from a stroke of paralysis which she suffered 10 days ago.
Born Elmeta McGuire, daughter of Story county pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Elias McGuire, she resided in Ames from 1875 to 1905. Mr. McGuire farmed in the Ballard Grove community, west of Huxley, before coming to Ames where he was in the grocery and later restaurant business at the east end of Main street. He died in 1891.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed became acquainted while Mr. Reed was taking advanced work at Iowa State college. Both were baptized the Christian church here in 1894 and were married here Sept. 12, 1897.
Surviving are her widower, a son Dana Reed, Des Moines attorney, a daughter Charlotte Elmeta, a teacher in the Des Moines schools, and a nephew, Eldred Dunning of Ames.
