Observe 50th wedding anniversary
Wilber and Eda Sowers
Wilber and Eda Sowers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at Grace United Methodist Church, Story City, Iowa, on Sunday, July 2, 1978. The event was hosted by their children, Morris and Beverly Anderson of East Lansing, Michigan, Richard and Ann Deaton of Fall Creek, Wisconsin and Paul and Jane Sowers of St. Charles, Minnesota. Also present were all of their grandchildren, Steven and Margaret Anderson, New York City, Ben and Susan Anderson-Ray, Woodridge, Illinois, Elizabeth and David Anderson, East Lansing, Michigan, Alan, Denise, Dianne and Debbie Deaton, Fall Creek, Wisconsin, Heather Jo and Dwight Sowers of St. Charles, Minnesota.
More than 300 guests registered in the guest book. On this table was a decorated cake, a replica of "The Little Brown Church in the Vale" at Nashua where the couple was married. The cake was baked and decorated by a granddaughter, Ann Deaton.
Beverly Anderson introduced the program which began with the song, "The Little Brown Church" sung by the Randau Sisters. A reminiscing talk was given by the Rev. Paul Beckman, followed by a song, "Know Who Holds Tomorrow" by the Deaton Family. Remarks and a prayer were given by the Rev. Duane O'Tool. In closing, the grandchildren sang, "Jesus Loves Little Children" and Pass it on". Poems were read by Jane Sowers.
Refreshments were served from a table centered with a bouquet of fifty golden roses. Presiding at the punch bowl were Mrs. Frank (Christine) Baldus and Mrs. Lester (Florence) Carlson. Serving coffee were Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Kammin and Mrs. Millard (Mary) Lee, Ladies helping at the serving table included Mrs. Vernon (Marilyn) Anderson, Mrs. Lou (Luella) Christenson and Mrs. Merrill (Norma) Randau. The Homebuilders Sunday School class assisted with the serving.
Eda Johnson and Wilber Sowers were married July 22, 1928 in The Little Brown Church, Nashua, by the Rev. L. L. Orth. Their attendants were Guy Romp (now deceased) and Helen Hove, Now Mrs. Reuben Heimarck, Mesa, Arizona, who was unable to be present Sunday.THANK YOU
Our hearty thanks to all of our friends and relatives who helped make our Golden Wedding Anniversary such a happy and memorable occasion. Your presence at our open house, gifts and cards were deeply apprieciated.
